The PBB Weekly Awards[June 17-22, 2012]

Tibay Award: Jai

Aminin, mas mahirap yung challenge niya kaysa kay Joj and in fairness, kinaya niya at naligtas niya ang kakambal from elimination.

Subtitle Award: Joj and Jai

Twins Joj and Jai: Which is which?
Sino nga bang nakaintindi ‘dun sa conversation nila sa bedroom bago pumasok sa confession room for the final verdict regarding their housemate status? Wala!

Triplet Pagtatapon Ng Damit Special Award: Karen

Joj, Jai… and Karen? Triplet ba yung pumasok sa bahay? Affected much ha? At may patapon-tapon ng damit effect pa? “Dalawa? Ba’t dalawa? Akala ko isang lang? Akala ko isa lang! *insert growl*

I Bet You Didn’t Know Award: Ryan

Affected Much Award: Myrtle

Myrtle: You can't please everybody, girl.
Let be Myrtle a lesson na you can’t please everybody and you can’t push yourself to be liked by everybody. It just doesn’t happen, okay? ‘Wag ng umemote. Chin up! Smile!

Sino Kayo Awards: Alec and Yves

Nasa loob pala kayo ng bahay? Sorry, ‘di ko na feel mga presensya niyo eh. Sabagay, hindi niyo na kayang sapawan yung eksena ni Karen sa bedroom. Hindi yung kambal yung star for this week eh, si Karen talaga. “Dalawa? Ba’t dalawa? Akala ko isang lang? Akala ko isa lang! *insert growl* (Sorry, ‘di lang maka-get over.)

Life lessons I learned from PBB this week (Twitter-style)

Update article image
Finally, everything was panned out. Photo credit: PBB Official Website
#Awkward

Let’s face it, life is full of awkward (dreadful, even) moments. It’s up to us how we deal with them. It’s not easy, but these challenges make us better individuals. That is if we come out alive from them. But hey! God doesn’t give us something we won’t be able to handle. Heads up. There’s always an end to a tunnel. Unless it’s closed for renovations then you have a big problem.

#Assumera

It’s never a good thing to assume, especially when it comes to relationships. If you’re left to assume the specifics of your relationship then you’re in trouble. Everything should be laid down through proper communication. Many relationships have gone down in flames because both parties didn’t bother to bridge the communication gap. Always be clear on what you want out of a relationship.

#NoSecrets

Haven’t you learned anything from Philippines telenovelas and movies, and in real life? There is no such thing as a secret. Well, you can probably keep it for some time, but never for eternity. In truth, a secret is supposed to be broadcasted, not hidden. The best way to avoid dirty secrets? Be honest. Be upfront. However cliché this may sound, honesty is still the best policy.

#Okay

With this show I attach okay with lying. Whenever somebody says “I’m okay” he or she is definitely lying. Please, stop saying that you’re okay when we both know that you’re not. I won’t think less of you if you’re not okay. What will make me think less of you is if you lie straight to my face. And that’s also not healthy. You’re putting too much stress on your mind, body, and soul. You’re not a superhero, okay?

#LikeAMan

It takes nothing to make a mistake, but it takes a man to face the consequences of those mistakes. Everyone has their inevitable right to be stupid every once in a while. Nobody is perfect, they say. The important thing is to learn from these shortcomings. And by learn I mean you carry those lessons until your dying day. There’s no point in saying sorry; in asking for forgiveness if you won’t learn from them.

#DoWhatYouThinkIsRight

The right thing is a subjective thing. Everybody has their own concept of what is acceptable and detestable. No manual can tell you the exact right thing you should do. You have to trust your own set of principles and your instinct. There will be people who will critic you for your decisions, but never heed them. If after your decision you can still sleep soundly at night then you did the right thing.

PBB Teen Edition 4 6th Eviction Night: No Surprise

When they showed the footage of Mariz’s birthday celebration and her task to get Big Utol’s birthday present for her, it was some sort of premonition that, yeah, my predictions are going to happen. I was actually happy she got the scholarship. That plus the experiences she had inside the PBB house were, I think, very great parting gifts for her eventual eviction.

Pinoy Big Brother Housemate
Mariz Raneses: Latest evictee from the Big Brother House.
Their American Idol-ish announcement of nominees was, well, anticlimactic. Duh? We already knew the list of nominees for this week. No surprise factor there. I don’t want to sound mean, but I found a crying Roy very cute. Can I go inside the house and hug him? For like forever? And what’s with that camera-whore gay teen lurking behind Bianca and Robbie? Attention seeker much? He even had the gall to continuously plaster his face in front of my telly despite the fact he is, as Kimmy Go Dong Hae puts it, butt-ugly! Bianca and Robbie were gorgeous as usual, but that gay guy was so distractingly atrocious. And if I’m correct, I’ve already seen him in Uber earlier. He obviously does not have a life. And get your paws off Robbie Domingo for Pete’s sake. As if you have a chance teh with a face like yours.

The number of PBB female housemates is dwindling. But I fear not because the ones left standing are fan favorites. I won’t have problems if the four of them will go straight to the Big Night. Myrtle is, most of the time, a good role model, Karen has spunk and is obviously the most candid, and twins Joj and Jai just have loveable personalities.

50 plus days of being together inside the same house warrants you to become emotional when you get evicted. I give Mariz some slack. And it was her birthday so I’m sure she was expecting that another week inside the PBB house would’ve been a great birthday gift. But obviously, the universe has other plans for her. Emote na kung emote, but hey! You’re seen on national television. It’s only Filipino to be emotional in front of the camera. Either that or be laughably hysterical (like those people they show on TV Patrol).

Now regarding the house players, we’ll have to wait for the revelation tomorrow to find out who the hell they are. And I have this weird feeling that one of the house players will be Yves’ girlfriend. Now that could create tension between the famous MyrVes love team. The other is Ryan's brother? Well, we’ll just have to wait and see.

With the way Myrtle’s fans are so invested in her, I have no doubts we will see her until the end of this season. Who knows? She might even be the first to reach that finish line and ultimately become this season’s big winner. Toni’s dress tonight was beautiful, by the way.

Here is the final tally of votes from tonight’s episode:

Myrtle - 71.88%
Tom - 19.66%
Mariz - 8.46% [EVICTED]

Couch Potato Opinions: GMA7's The Good Daughter

With nothing left to do during the afternoons this summer break, I have resorted to watching afternoon soaps on both ABS-CBN and GMA7. I have so many opinions about each show, but let us start first with GMA’s The Good Daughter, which is approaching its finale this week.

The plot is meh! Everything you have already seen on Philippine soap operas in the last decade, you’ll see it here in this soap. I don’t know how writers and producers are able to come up with the same garbage over and over again. Well, I can’t believe how the viewing public keeps latching on to these soap operas with their repetitive plotlines. Just because you twist the story a bit (and by bit, I mean, A BIT) and you put in different faces to portray the characters does not make a soap opera new. Can you at least try putting up a semblance of creativity, dear writers? Anyway, constantly reused storylines I can forgive, but horrendous delivery? Give me a break!

And when it comes to horrendous delivery, Kylie Padilla surely brings the house down. In flames. Honey, there’s this thing the showbiz industry calls acting workshop. Have you even attended one before starting your career? By the looks of it, the answer is an obvious no. Being a Padilla does not entitle you to skip workshops and classes that will help make you less annoying on screen. You cannot rest on your laurels. I don’t care if your father is a well-recognized actor and personality in the whole archipelago. You can only ride on your parent’s luminous name for so long. And again, having a beautiful face does not equate to great acting.

Here’s my problem with Kylie: her face. No, not in a your-face-is-f**king-ugly-I-have-a-problem-with-it kind of way. My problem is that her face exudes the same emotion in every situation her character, Bea Guevarra, finds herself in. To illustrate better, let Kylie show it to you.

Kylie, give me a happy face.
Good. Now give me a sad face.
How about a what-the-f*ck-is-happening face?
A sleepy face, perhaps?

Mind you, that’s an exceptional talent. Oh wait, it's not that exceptional because almost every actor I see in front of my telly does that. I think this is the reason why LJ Reyes’ character is so bent on making her life miserable. I mean, if I were Frances I would gladly put Kylie Padilla’s character on the wringer because of her horrible (Sorry, can’t think of any other accurate adjective) portrayal. There is no greater satisfaction than making life a living hell for a person who does not have a clue how to act in front of the camera properly.
LJ Reyes: Her kontrbida acting is good. Just needs a little fine-tuning.
I actually like LJ Reyes’ portrayal. Well, that’s because I’m a bitch like her character. I actually find myself cheering her on whenever she’s scheming against Kylie. For the most part, her kontrabida acting is good. However, may I suggest she watch Cherie Gil’s kontrabida portrayals? So that she can pick up valuable lessons from the benchmark of all Philippine kontrabidas, Cherie Gil, for her next kontrabida outing. I’d love to see her again lambasting co-actors who clearly do not deserve to be called actors and are making my eyes bleed every time I see them.

As for Rocco Nacino… Well, he’s the male counterpart of Kylie Padilla. That is why I am not surprised that the network and the show’s producers decided to pair them up. They both have chemistry, and they are both clueless when it comes to fine television acting. Remind me again why GMA keeps giving them projects and roles that are blatantly beyond their thespic capacities and abilities? And don’t even get me started with their supporting cast.
Rocco Nacino: Kylie Padilla's male counterpart when it comes to acting.
I’m actually shedding tears for the upcoming end of this program. Tears of joy. Now if only I can gather myself long enough to witness the next dreadful teleserye offering GMA has in store for me next week. I can only hope it’s a soap where I won’t have to endure Kylie Padilla all over again. Or Rocco Nacino. Sh*t! What if they come up with a Good Daughter Sequel? OMFG! Stop it!

Predictions for PBB Teen Edition 4’s 6th Eviction Night

So how the hell did I came up with my predictions? Let’s see.

Myrtle

There is no doubt that Myrtle has a strong fan base, as evidenced by the percentage of votes she got the last time she was nominated. But has her fan base gotten stronger or has it dwindled because of the brouhaha she got embroiled with the past week? Until last week, I only saw Myrtle as the goody-two shoes type of gal. Yung tipong dahil sa bait at maturity ay wala ka ng maipipintas sa kanya. However, yung gulong napasukan niya with Yves made me realize na, yeah, she’s still human; she’s still young; and she’s still entitled to make mistakes and learn from them.

Pinoy Big Brother Housemate
Myrtle Sarrosa: Is she safe or will she do a Jessica Sanchez?
I was not happy with how she handled that at first. Nagmukha siyang malandi para sa akin. I mean, it was already confirmed that Yves has a girl waiting outside for him, and she vehemently expressed that she does not want to be the type who poaches on another woman’s turf so… Bakit niya pa ine-entertain ulit si Yves? And what’s with that hug after the TRO was lifted? But that’s the essence of being young right? Make mistakes, learn from them and be wiser. Only the votes will tell if this situation has endeared Myrtle more to her fans or the other way around.

I sincerely want her to stay. She may not be perfect, but she’s a dang good example. And I think that’s what we, the youth, need right now - a good example. I still believe she’s going to be safe this week. Unless she pulls off a Jessica Sanchez (Remember American Idol’s Top 7 round?) wherein her fans assumed that she’s already safe and didn’t give her the crucial votes she needed. So to Myrtle fans, keep those votes coming. And to fellow Ilonggos and Ilonggas, and to fellow Iskolars ng Bayan, vote please?

Tom

This is short. I am not a fan of Tom and I am not a hater either. I just feel that whether he stays or goes won’t make a difference inside the Big Brother House. I don’t find him that interesting. It’s maybe because we already had an overdose of guys like him the previous Teen Edition - guys who are cute, good in English and extremely bad in Tagalog (Remember Ivan, Bret, and James?). What’s new? But based on the large number of female fans I see on Twitter, I think he won’t have a problem. I mean he’s handsome, he speaks in this cute cono accent, and he’s been very neutral and non-controversial (except for their fight about the food) in most issues inside the house. In short, girls will definitely pine and vote for him. Remember Phillip Phillips? Yeah, he might do a Phillip Phillips.

Pinoy Big Brother Housemate
Tom Doromal: Probably safe because of his good looks.

Mariz

Being the lone Cebuana, you’d think she’s got the Cebu votes in the bag but I think otherwise. A back story that pulls at your heartstrings is not enough to sway the votes on your side. The way she has presented herself the past few weeks was bordering on the annoying and irritating. Is this the underdog I would want to vote for? A straightforward no. She doesn’t have the grit that Karen brings to the table and she definitely does not have the uber likeable personality that Myrtle or the twins have. Initially I wanted her to finish at least in fourth place so she can bring home the money and start life with a new and better slate. But comparing her to the other personalities inside the house, she doesn’t stand out for the good reasons. Menopause ka na ba teh sa edad mong yan at wagas ka maka-mood swings at um-OA? It doesn’t help that she is not known for being diligent in household chores. Nagtrabaho ka na bilang kasambahay di ba? In-expect ko talaga na isa siya sa mga magiging masipag na housemates, but it turns out na mas masipag pa si Kit (na laki sa yaman) at si Roy.

Pinoy Big Brother Housemate
Mariz Raneses: I want her to stay but she's probably out.

But who knows? She just might show us a big improvement this week or perhaps a new revelation about herself that will make us like her a bit and convince us to vote for her. Who know nga naman? Pero ako, I am not holding my breath for her. Among the three, she has the biggest chances of going home unless Tom’s fans don’t do a Phillip Phillips and unless Myrtle fans do a Jessica Sanchez. Side Note: Yes, hindi pa rin ako maka-get over sa results ng AI Finale. But between her and Tom, I’d choose her. Eh sa mas interesting ang isang bahay pag-may maarte. And at least, she’s maarte and she knows it. Anyway…

My Predictions:

Myrtle - Safe
Tom - Probably Safe
Mariz - Probably Out

Ikaw kaibigan anong masasabi mo? Tama kaya ang predictions ko or hindi? Well, magkakaalaman tayo this Saturday.
